A Russian Professor, Alexander Lukin observes that the increasing growth of the economy in some countries such as China, India and Brazil were inevitably relatively reducing Western power.

Speaking on Friday to 25 Development Journalism Scholars at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in Delhi, Professor Lukin noted that Western Countries such as America do not hold the amount of power as before because of other countries which are demonstrating growth.

Prof. Lukin is Head of Department of International Relations, National Research University Higher School of Economics.

He is also Director, Centre for East Asian and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Studies, Moscow State of International Relations of Russia.

Prof. Lukin wondered how some Western countries decide to bomb other countries as a way of telling them how to develop and govern themselves.

He observed  that  the bombing of Libya and subsequent killing of Col. Ghandaffi  did not solve any problem instead left the country with no government and created several factions fighting each other.

“I don’t understand why some western countries bomb other countries in order to tell them how to develop. Look, in Libya currently there is no government instead there are several groups fighting each other”, laments Prof. Lukin.

The Professor explained that Russia’s stance at the UN  Security Council towards addressing Libya issues were a peaceful approach and not military intervention as executed by America and France.

He charged that surprisingly some Western countries advocating for democracy at international level themselves were exhibiting elements of totalitarian leadership

Meanwhile Prof. Lukin told Scholars that Russia would like to see conflict North Korea’s nuclear development  solved peacefully as his country and other neighbours would be affected.

“You see, America is very far from North Korea. So if they are to fight North Korea my country, China, South Korea and others will be greatly affected”, notes Prof. Lukin.
